AMD ANNOUNCES INDUSTRY'S FIRST 3.0-VOLT, 64-MEGABIT NOR FLASH MEMORY DEVICE
--AMD Drives High Performance at Low Power--
SUNNYVALE, CA--APRIL 26, 1999--AMD today announced the Am29LV640U, the industry's highest density 3.0-volt-only, NOR flash memory device. Manufactured with advanced 0.23 micron process technology, this high performance device is capable of access times as fast as 90 nanoseconds, while providing low power operation.

"The Am29LV640U provides customers with the ability to store unprecedented levels of code and data in a broad range of applications," said Walid Maghribi, group vice president of AMD's Memory Group. "Using proven single-level cell technology, AMD is able to provide the lowest-power and highest-performance 64-megabit NOR flash device."

"The Am29LV640U has a VersatileI/O™ control which allows the device to interface directly with 5.0-volt, 3.0-volt, and 1.8-volt system buses. This makes the Am29LV640U ideal for code storage in telecommunications, as well as portable and networking applications. We are committed to providing a full range of flash products for every designer's needs," continued Maghribi.

Additional Features

AMD's SecSi™ Sector -- An extra 256-byte sector that contains a unique, secure identification number that can be used to prevent equipment cloning.

Proven FBGA Packaging -- This package provides a standard footprint that allows designers to easily upgrade from lower densities. The FBGA package gives customers the most reliable, least expensive chip-scale packaging solution for flash memory.

Standard Flash Architecture & Operation -- By using industry standard 64Kbyte sectors and AMD standard embedded algorithms, customers can migrate their existing software without restructuring or adding additional control code, thereby decreasing their time to market.

Advanced Power Management and Zero Power Operation. -- AMD's low voltage families offer the lowest power consumption in the industry, allowing customers to extend the battery life of their systems.

Applications
The Am29LV640U gives designers the ability to include more product features and functionality without sacrificing performance or board space. Feature-rich portable applications such as smart phones and handheld organizers can now store more digital messages, contain more character sets, save entire web pages and offer improved voice and handwriting recognition. The Am29LV640U can substantially reduce the size of flash memory modules used by telecommunications and networking applications, while improving their overall system reliability through reduced component count.

Package, Price and Availability
The Am29LV640U is sampling now. Production deliveries will begin in Q3. Packaging options include a 63-ball FBGA, as well as a 48-pin TSOP. The Am29LV640U is priced at $23.55 in 10,000-piece quantities.
