Another post I found. Remember this is just someone's opinion in conversation with someone else:

(Q) WIth product cycles being what they are, is it really likely that Intel is
going to release a new chip and chipset in the middle of the Christmas
shopping season? I know that's the current company line but what OEM is
going to start selling a new product in mid-November?

(A) That's part of the issue with Intel's lawsuit against VIA Technologies.
VIA has a 133 MHz chipset (ApolloPro 133) ready to go.

Dell and other OEMs are evaluating mainboards (VIA is part of the
same group that includes FIC, the large, Taiwan-based mainboard
manufacturer) using VIA's chipsets. Intel isn't ready to
release the i820 (it's reportedly slower than a 440BX, and RAMBUS
isn't ready for mass production either), so they're
essentially stalling.

They made the mistake of making promises based on technology
that isn't ready for prime time.

Microsoft does this all the time but really doesn't have any competition.
If AMD can get the Athlon in mass production, and chipset support
appears for it (other than Irongate) Intel may be in trouble - it will
have real competition.

richard,

Thanks for all the posts! I've been trying to find the boards from which you've been pulling these, and I can't seem to locate any of the messages on the SI boards (possibly they're not SI threads). Could you please include the board and message number (or better yet, post the link) when you put these up. That way we can go follow the discussion along rather than just get a snapshot of the conversation.

TIA,

Dave

p.s. It also helps us assess the credibility of the post. With just these snippets and no name attached, there's no credibility to them.
