If I had not been so stubborn I might have
done very well if I'd applied my current
technique (for investing in microcap biotech)
toward web tech. But there is no going back,
I think I've missed out. Plus it has been
hard to imagine that any of these companies
will generate earnings when, for instance,
the pipe into my house can barely support
me dialing over to my buddy's house for a
little StarCraft. US West seems to have no
incentive to correct the problem--they
derive nothing from my using their lines to
get at my ISP, I pay nothing additional to
them no matter how much I'm online.

I might have been dazzled by the promise of
interactive television and jumped on a couple
of stocks for the ride--however, I've been
pleased with DirecTV and TCI's digital cable
is not competitive, I lost interest.

I briefly got interested in the idea of PC-TV,
but I did not want to slap a decoder card into
my computer just so I could crowd my desktop
with distraction. Sometimes I will drag a coax
cable upstairs from my entertainment center
downstairs so that I can watch CNBC while I'm on
Silicon Investor, not an elegant solution, but cheap!

Perhaps I am just too cynical to ever catch a
rising star in the web tech sector. Strangely,
I am constantly dazzled by biotechnology, a
sector riddled with disappointment. Sigh...
I don't have the answer, but this is a great
thread--it will be fun over the years to watch
Paul Allen, and the smart people he has hired,
find some of the answers.
