You don't, you use a bolus feeder and shove it down its throat. Not used much now as cattle don't free range where they can ingest small pieces of wire as much.

You would use it in dairy and breed stock. On a feeder steer that's ready for having it's brains mashed in a couple of days it wouldn't make sense.

They get them back where they get everything else back that goes down a cows throat. It's the hard lump in the big runny puddle of crap.

That would be hard on chain and mill saws and those who use them. On The New Yankee Workshop Norm make really nice furniture out of salvaged boards. He has a tool that finds all the nails, screws etc. so he can remove them before planing the boards to size.
