Not used much now as cattle don't free range where they can ingest small pieces of wire as much. You would use it in dairy and breed stock. On The New Yankee Workshop Norm make really nice furniture out of salvaged boards. He has a tool that finds all the nails, screws etc. so he can remove them before planing the boards to size.
