I have four cats and a dog, so I feed the cats where the dog can't get their food, on top of a counter in the kitchen. I keep the bowl filled with kibble, and a bowl of water next to it, so the only time they have to ask for food is if someone doesn't notice that the bowl is empty. Often, they don't ask for food, but simply sit, staring at the empty bowl, as if waiting for the food to appear.
