It's pretty clear to me that (as always) it's exactly the opposite of that S3 is saying, no wonder they don't support there HYPE with numbers. S3 market share is down. Total Desktop PC Market Share Figures for Graphics Chip Vendors These figures are the total desktop PC market share figures for graphics chip vendors, and include the first quarter of 1999. Total desktop means all graphics chips, and does not include the mobile segment. Company 1998 1Q99 ATI 30% 33% S3 21% 16% SiS 10% 13% Matrox 8% 10% Nvidia 7% 11% Other 24% 17% Source: Mercury Research, Inc. This is the total market share for all PC graphics products, which means it includes the mobile market. Company 1998 1Q99 ATI 27% 30% S3 19% 15% SiS 8% 11% Intel 7% 7% Matrox 7% 9% Nvidia 6% 10% Other 26% 18% Source: Mercury Research, Inc. PS- Scared, i don't really think there is a link between market share and beating the EPS number, what if ANALyst make estimate that are easy to beat for S3, and hard to beat for ATI, does that mean that S3 is increasing sales, no and that's the problem of relying on EPS estimate to move stock, that mean that ANALyst ALONE will decide on the future of a company which make NO SENSE to me. If ATI were trading at a PE of 50, then that would mean that THE STREET would have put pressure on ATI, but with such growth rate and a very low PE, beating or not the ESTIMATE is not important to me, it's sad that it will probably an important factor anyway. PS2: got the numbers from yahoo, the numbers are from Tom's hardware, but since i have boycott Tom's webpage a long time ago, maybe someone should take a look to validate them. Regards, MArc
