Shadow,
Hi!!!

RE: My friend paid $999 for the computer and got a $100 rebate.
CompUSA billed IBM $409 for the repair. If this is a common experience for Aptiva buyers IBM won't be in the PC business for long

Probably should have invested in DELL years ago when I knew quite a bit about IBM's failure to deliver....really didnt' have the interest since I was "tied up" in MRK...What is now apparent is a foregone conclusion...but, IBM can't make any money in the PC end of the business...Service and tech they are doing very very well....
I know literally hundreds of IBMers....former students, parents and oh yes...now grandparents.. :o) It may be old for some on this thread...I really don't like any "rumors".. I can't help but mention the umpteen times I have heard IBM was leaving the PC business...now for the folks that need numbers...IBM hasn't made money in the PC business for umpteen years either...and last year they lost almost a billion...Gerstner keeps telling us that they need the PC's for the sake of the other businesses that are quite profitable...I believe this may be smoke and mirrors...heck, I know folks that work there that own DELL....they just want IBM out of the business for the sake of IBM and their other "investment reason" ....obviously this is a huge plus for DELL...

Best, Kemble
