I don't think the Crusaders were into burning the Gospel and Epistles. 1204, the Fourth Crusade, they did it for the Venetians, who were bankrolling them. The Venetians were jealous of the Byzantine Greeks, who called themselves the Holy Roman Empire (as they indubitably were). The crusaders helped establish a Latin kingdom for the Venetians, but sacked the city and burned the library. Goons.
