That is great...the wand product partner helps extend the utility of the product...they also have a "gun type" scanner reader...not sure if it is a partner product, but it works with socket's parts. also...I actually saw the product at PCEXPO...and they just snapped a little attachment to the bottom of a PDA...and that attachment read the barcodes... since I am involved with "Sales Forces" of major packaged goods companies....I immediately saw how this would save companies a lot of time...since the merchandisers and sales force is always hand compiling competitive shelf information... ran home.....read the MSFT info...and invested....should have gone to PCEXPO a day earlier and saved myself $.50/share....sigh...but long term...it makes no difference....laugh.. this product should be "hot"....just the bar code thing... add the phone card attachment...and we have a major winner here. Does anyone have more info on the paging device and GPS cards that were in development back in 1996 (just reading the intro to this thread)...I found an interesting quote...which I typed into the EDIG thread....let me go find it...I will post the contents here... ++++++++++++++++++++my earlier post to EDIG thread follows+++++++ Heaven forbid we read "hard copy"...but this is out of "Internet Telephony" page 10 July 1999: on the future of wireless "Palm-based computers will eventually merge with cell phones, and IP will be the universal wireless networking standard. In addition to telephony, IP wireless devices will allow you to have access to e-mail, the Web, GPS, the latest stock market developments, a database of contacts, and myriad other features currently only available on our desktips. " there is a CTI EXPO www.ctiexpo.com There is a lot in the future that EDIG can benefit from beyond digital radio (as of 6/24 Lucent is staffing up for its new venture "digital radio" in New Jersey...see my earlier posts), the whole telephony thing (web access, talking, email, faxing, dictation including VTT and TTV and all the other PDA outgrowths...(Voice to Text, Text to Voice)....imagining a PDA that is is also a cellphone, web access, tv, bar code reader, digital music player, dictation taker/translator, foreign language translator, calculator, stock market, GPS mapping/directions, contact/address system, infra-red information exchanger...personal logger (exercise/calories), reminder and gift buyer, and ...hey...clock/alarm. ....laughing.... where is Dick Tracy when ya need him...?? should be an interesting year...to be long on EDIG...(and SCKT, my EDIG wannabe stock...) smile...Mary LONG on SCKT and EDIG
