I have sons myself, and if the draft is reinstated, they are prime candidates. If they did have to go, I'd rather know that order came from a Bob Dole or a John McCain, and certainly not a Bill Clinton. Serving your country by whatever means is meritorious. Getting into a unit by improper means--if proved--is not so meritorious. Whether I would do the same for myself or my sons is speculative, and probably beside the point. I would not hold myself out as qualified to send boys into combat, and as a father I want someone who has unquestionably been in that position, such as a Bob Dole or a John McCain, to be making that type of call.
