Marvin,
I'm posting your article below. What is a VAR?

SGI 4-Sale?

Something's moving SGI's normally stagnant stock. Trading volume of the company's shares quadrupled to almost 4 million last Tuesday, and its stock rose $1.25 to $16.25-the highest it has been since April. Wall Street believes the troubled company will get snapped up, a la Sequent by IBM. There's also a rumor that "something big" will be announced this month. That might fit with an interesting theory put forth by one SGI VAR: The company is going to beat analysts' estimates for its quarter ended June 30. (It's expected to lose a nickel per share.) Based on his own sales, the VAR says SGI is having a great quarter.

Interesting speculation that SGI may be bought out by IBM! It will be a disaster of the proportions of Compaq (CPQ) buying Digital. IBM has enough fat and slack - why would they add to it by buying SGI. Gestner isn't stupid (His famous quote of late "The PC era is over!", when PCs are selling well (not IBM's though)and the sub $ 500 PCs are growing like wildfire!). In case they do buy it for $ 25+ or better they can have my shares first at a 10 % discount.
