Darrell,

Why not answer my question: were you there in the sixties? If you were, you'd know what it meant to go into the Guard. It was a way to keep from going to Vietnam. I had several friends who took that route, and knew of scores of other people who did the same. That's why it was so tough to get into the Guard, and why George W. had his daddy pull strings to get him there.

Again, I'm not criticizing anybody who went that route, I'm just calling a spade a spade.

As for the news, the difference between you and I is that I not only distrust mainstream news -- though I believe in the long run, being subject to peer review, I think it tends to be fairly accurate -- but I also completely distrust the alternative sources, as they are usually not critically reviewed. I've spent years studying particular historical incidents and have always been amazed at how much misinterpretation and deliberate fraud there is in the alternative press and sources. That's why I caution you to check your source's sources.

Without getting into a big discussion on the nature of liberalism, conservatism (which is 19th century liberalism), and socialism, I will only suggest you take time to study the development of these movements. It will teach the difference between them.
