In certain regions, I think RBOCs would avoid the confrontation with cable. Use Peninsula as an example, more than half of the houses couldn't get any TV signal without cable. Cable service is more economical than Dish, and it's necessity, so if I were GTE, I don't have compelling reason to go there. Although Cox and GTE both are the sole supplier in their area of focus here, I think most Peninsula residents would agree that Cox customer service is a little bit better than GTE, if you were force to make comparison. Obviously, some PV residents wouldn't agree with me because dish is a way of saying no to cable. For those people that using dishes, the cost for entertainment and Internet access will be very expensive, but then again for those folks can afford multiple million dollar houses, do they care about the cost? Another contradiction, I heard that the best performed 99 Cent Store is the one in Beverly Hills, can you believe that? Perhaps for every one successful movie star, there are 1000 of the soon-to-be living on Cup-of-Noodle.

in the Bay Area, I have the feeling that DSL will have higher demand

Want to let us read your reason behind it? Is it because of T/TCI bad tracking record?

Hi gpowell,

I'm curious as to the location of the areas served by T's new OC-48 'bones? Do you have any particulars? And how about the specs. DWDM over glass I assume, any idea whose providing the muxers? The photonics gear? Is it 40 colors or 80?

Also, does RDC equal Regional Data Center or Remote Data Connector? I couldn't quite figure it out from the context.

Regarding the preferences of folks in the Bay area. I no longer live there but a friend who does is convinced that DSL is better because of privacy issues. I'm not sure it matters or reflects reality, but there is a perception out there that cable connections are very insecure.

Ciao, Ry
