When McHale would get doubled, someone else, like Ainge or DJ, would be left wide open to shoot. Nowadays, no one is left open. Back then, Don Nelson was the only coach to understand how to thwart the illegal defense rules and play a zone. Now, every single team in the league does it. This has been slowly developing since the late 1980s, as people tried to emulate the Pistons. It has nothing to do with "kids today" or early draft entrants, though those are significant negatives for the game of basketball.
