That seems like such an insignificant story in relation to today's surge. IMO it must be something else. and with the U.S. closed? I dunno

July 5, 1999 - Microforum makes gains on renewed profile

biz.yahoo.com

TORONTO, July 5 (Reuters) - Electronic commerce marketing firm Microforum Inc. (Toronto:MCF.TO - news) was the Toronto stock market's hottest stock on Monday as investors hungry for good deals snapped up the shares.

Shares in the Toronto-based company was trading up C$1.00, or 17 percent, on the Toronto Stock Exchange at C$6.80 early afternoon after peaking at C$7 earlier. Microforum was the most active stock in a relatively quiet session with 1.8 million shares changing hands.

The stock price is still off from the C$12 high hit this year, but stands far above the 52-week low of 42 Canadian cents.

Microforum's recently garnered a ''buy'' recommendation from Canaccord Capital Corp. analyst David Wong in Vancouver, who has a 12-month, C$11 target for the stock.

''I guess the market was just looking for something to chew on. They're just news hungry right now,'' said Wong. ''My comment to clients or investors who are news hungry is to look at the fundamentals first.''

The firm is following a return to favor that Internet issues such as Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO - news) and America Online Inc. (NYSE:AOL - news) have already begun to experience on the U.S. market, said Wong.

Earlier this month, Microforum topped the most actives on the TSE, rising C$1.10 to hit C$6.90 after announcing it had final receipt from regulators in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta for a C$20 million private placement financing.

The company did not release any news on Monday, a spokesman
said.

In a Howard Cosell type voice...

What an amazing day it is today at the Sky Dome Stock Rally Event Of The Year.

For those who have been glued to their seats here at Toronto's Sky Dome stadium I think you'll agree that not much glue was needed, if any at that, to capture the interest of the thousands of MCF fans gathered here today to watch this incredible rally.

With less than two minutes left to closing, our most favored and trustworthy stock, MCF, is dancing and throwing punches like a young Mohammad Ali in the prime of his career. Is there no stopping this investors dream come true? One would think that after such an incredibly fantastical upward swing there would be some signs of relent. But, as plain as the nose on my face, it's obvious that this so called "TERMINATOR", as dubbed by the "LONGS", is absolutely indestructible.

And what action we have here today, ladies and gentlemen. As you can see we must have every member of the "LONGS" here in support of what they consider their stock idol, and of course wearing the traditional white tuxedo with LONG white coat tails. And how can you miss the "SHORTS"! While outnumbered 100 to 1 they still stand out like a sore thumb wearing nothing but black rubber rain boots, and bight red boxer shorts plastered in black dollar signs.

The SEC Militants have brought in reinforcements to contain the unruly nature of this stock invested crowd. Even as we speak there's a rumble going on just outside the Yorkton corporate booth. It seems as though some members of the "LONGS" have surrounded a lone "SHORT" and is proceeding to disarm him of what appears to be a cellular phone and.... wait... what's this?.... Oh my God... THEY'VE REMOVED HIS SHORTS AND ARE NOW WAVING THE BRIGHT RED SOILIES ABOVE THEIR HEAD IN RECOGNITION OF THEIR VICTORY. AND THE CROWD IS GOING ABSOLUTELY WILD HERE TODAY!

But Wait!!! The excitement isn't over yet!!! MCF HAS JUST EATEN THROUGH THE 7.30 ASK LIKE IT JUST CAME OFF A SEVEN DAY FAST!!! BUT WAIT... 7.25... 7.20... 7.25... 7.15... 7.25... 7.35... HOLY SHIT!!! SEVEN DOLLARS AND FORTY CENTS A SHARE... AND THERE'S THE BELL!!! WHAT A REMARKABLE, SUPERBULOUS, FANTASTICOSMICAL, AND UTTERLY STUPENDOUS EVENT THIS WAS TODAY!!!

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of town, a very passive crowd of toga dressed Yogen Fruz investors are protesting the use of butterfat in yogurt, claiming that butterfat has feelings too!

All the Best
Marty P.
