thanks Twick.. will look it up at Borders. There's one aspect of money I've never spoken of which could be broadly labeled as Money As Political Power. It could easily fill a number of volumes from how countries exercise their political will through currency and financial markets and trade, to trench warfare at the international bond buying, leveraging and selling level. The IMF is a ship of state with guns blazing claiming economic and political territory while offering the carrot of economic aid. Pirates exist at this level also, like the Barbary Coast pirates 1780s to 1820's, funds and individuals that form opportunistic alliances that extort small nation states or through quick trading vessels outmaneuver their more plodding enemies with quick violent attacks.
