Frank, Ray and all,

When I posted this morning I had to do a "post and run", which I hate to do. As I was in the car I began to think that I really missed two very important things that AOL is:

1. A reality (no matter how they differ from our view of where the real net is or where the real net future should be).

and

2. Successful. They have perceived and profitably filled the need and attracted a customer-base that, if not unrivaled, is certainly significant.

Reading your post, maybe AOL is what every ISP secretly aspires to be - generalized enough so you have some credibility, and proprietary enough so that you can maintain a wide franchised following. In that sense they may very well be heading toward relationships that get them even closer to their users' last/first miles.

Hope all are enjoying the holiday.

Steve
