First Oil into Sudan Pipeline CALGARY, July 6 /CNW-PRN/ - Talisman Energy Inc. announced today that following ceremonial commissioning of the production facilities on May 31, first oil flowed into the 1,500 kilometre pipeline from central Sudan to Port Sudan on June 23 and filling the pipeline is progressing well. ''The project is working!'' said Dr. Jim Buckee, President and Chief Executive Officer. ''This is another important milestone towards realising oil exports and comes less than a year after taking our interest in the project, well ahead of our expectations.'' Talisman (Greater Nile) BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Talisman Energy Inc., owns 25% of the project. Other participants are China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) with 40%, Petronas Carigali (Nile) Sdn Bhd with 30% and Sudapet Ltd. with the remaining 5%. First export sales are expected in the third quarter of 1999. A total of six fields will be commissioned during Phase I of development, producing an estimated 150,000 bbls/d. Talisman Energy Inc. is the largest independent Canadian oil and gas producer. The Company has operations in Canada, the North Sea, Indonesia and Sudan. Talisman is also conducting exploration in Algeria and Trinidad.
