Lumenon Inaugurates the First Photonic Chip Manufacturing Plant

MONTREAL, July 5 /CNW/ - Dr. Iraj Najafi, President and CEO of Lumenon
Innovative Lightwave Technology Inc. and Dr. Mark Andrews, Chief Technology
Officer, cordially invite media representatives to a briefing as well as the
inauguration of the first photonic chip manufacturing plant on Tuesday, July
6, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at 9060 Ryan Avenue, Dorval. The honorary President for
this event is Mr. Bernard Landry, Deputy Premier, Minister of State for the
Economy and Finance, Quebec Government.
The new photonic microprocessor is a major high performance,
cost-effective optical fiber solution for telecommunications, data
communications, computer networks and sensors.
Through its miniature optical chips on silicon, Lumenon is creating a
strategic, innovative product that combines the flexibility of electronic
chips with the capacity of optical fiber. Lumenon's photonic chip will help to
multiply telecommunications network capacity dramatically and increase the
market for plastic optical fiber (POF).
Lumenon was founded in 1998 by Dr. Iraj Najafi, Doctor of Physics,
Associate Professor at the Ecole Polytechnique and Dr. Mark Andrews, Doctor of
Chemistry, Associate Professor at McGill University.
