I think the "competitive" or "outdoing" part is really more like playing jazz - I write a good riff, and someone writes a good riff back - that's more than mere reciprocity, which I think of as being polite, like holding up one's end in a conversation. Different people on the thread "blow" different style riffs, and the most fun is when everyone is riffing on the same topic. FT just hates to admit when he is wrong - you hit him at an unfortunate time. He has better days.
