>I cannot understand the incredible
sexual urges that men seem to have (based on all those studies about how often men
think about sex) that alone makes me feel like they (in general- I know there are
exceptions) are a different species.<

Not all men work that way. I am heterosexual and I will admit that there is a reptilian part of my brain that appraises any woman I meet for the first time. But early there is 100% inhibition of this response by the simple fact that these women are bound to be a part of the set "Not My Wife". And if I get to know and like a woman - then simple respect for her as an individual and a friend effectively diverts any prurient thoughts I may have. The sexual tension you describe need not be an enemy - indeed I feel that it is the mark of a successful adult to subordinate this tension to the precepts of niceness.

Perhaps the characteristics you ascribe to men are not universal, even among straight white males in the USA. I I I would rather be thought of as a Person than a Guy.
