Yes Kim,

The only reason that I can come up with for not mentioning it in the standard history books in schools is that it would open up Pandora's Box about the human cost in establishing and maintaining this land as a nation. Quite a bit of lost lives by slavery, several major wars, forming of the unions, stolen property from the Native Indians, and the enslavement of Japanese Americans as the down payment price tag to enforce the words that "all men are created equal ...."

We can't change the past. We have the here, now, and our attitudes we can all work on. The 4th of July has to mean more than a day off from work and a free fireworks show. I stop to ponder, "what I would have done in their shoes?" I have to wonder.
