Bruce, You might get the book called Josephus's interpretation of the Bible. Born in AD 37-100, he was a pro-Roman Jew associated with the emperor Titus. He was one of the earliest commentators as well as a historian of the beginning of the Christian era. Some of the statements he made about the Jews of that day leads me to believe that they had degenerated to heathens and idol worshipers among other distasteful things. I quote from him concerning the moral condition of that generation. ""As it were impossible to relate to their enormities in detail,I shall briefly state that no other city endured similar calamities, and no generation ever existed more prolific in crime. They were the very dregs of society, the spurious and polluted spawns of the nation. I am of the opinion that had the Romans deferred the punishment of these wretches, either the earth would have opened and swallowed up the city(Jerusalem), or it would have been swept away by a deluge, or would have shared the thunderbolts of the land of Sodom. For it produced a race far more ungodly then those who were thus visited. "That period had somehow become so prolific in iniquity of every description of amongst the Jews, that no work of evil was left unperpetuated." Josephus This is only a small part of the descriptions that he had of that generation of Jews. At another point he stated that they were possessed by 7000 devils. Also, Although I may agree with a certain amount of what Emile says, I am no man's follower save Jesus Christ. Thanks for finding the info on the abortions. I believe this verse by the Lord was looking ahead to this time when He said it. "43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation. Mathew 12:43-45 Regards, brightstar
