Over the past few weeks, I have been following this thread with great interest. Other than being long AOL, the discussions have often helped me in evaluating buy/hold/sell decisions. I hope that we maintain the quality here and more over I look forward to the Happy Dance Ball in the near future!

Ericssonwins contract from America Online
STOCKHOLM, July 6 (Reuters) - Swedish telecoms group Ericsson said on Tuesday it had won a contract to expand Internet service provider America Online's (NYSE:AOL - news) existing infrastructure. It gave no financial details.

''America Online has selected the Ericsson Optical Networking (ERION) Networker to expand the capacity of its existing infrastructure,'' Ericsson said in a statement.

Ericsson said it would be the first vendor to roll out an optically protected wide area metro ring when the 140-kilometre metro Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) ring is completed this summer.

''Strategically, this project represents an important milestone for us,'' said Roselyne Genin, Vice President of Ericsson Inc's Optical Networks, Network Operators Group.

''It shows that Ericsson is well positioned to address the growing need for IP-centric DWDM applications in both the local and wide area metro loops.''

The ERION Networker is based on DWDM technology with enables carriers to equip the same fibre with far more capacity by splitting light into wavelength components, each acting as an individual channel.
