Seattle ABC Television Affiliate Relies On Ampex DST Archive System for Commercial Backup REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 6, 1999--Ampex Data Systems Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ampex Corporation (AMEX:AXC), today announced the sale of a DST(R) 312 digital tape drive to the Seattle/Portland ABC affiliates, KOMO and KATU operated by Fisher Broadcasting. The Ampex DST 312 digital tape purchase is just the beginning of Fisher Broadcasting's total storage solution and will initially be used for backup of commercial material. As one of the first steps in finding a replacement for its legacy commercial playback system, Fisher selected two Tektronix Profile(R) video servers for playout and the Ampex DST 312 digital tape drive to archive commercial material and free up space on the video servers. KOMO selected the Ampex DST 312 digital tape drive based on speed and tested compatibility with Tektronix Profile video servers connected in a Fibre Channel network. "During our research for a solution on tape backup technology we found consistently higher access speeds with the Ampex DST system," said Don Meyer, senior research and development technologist for Fisher Broadcasting.
