I've been shopping for a new laptop lately and have spent a lot of time in computer stores. From my own observations I think they are selling Emachines as fast as they can build them. There are also
lots of people in the return lines with long looks on their faces and
green and white boxes at their feet. I personally wouldn't waste my money on one. A business friend bought one several months ago and it
sits unused. He has been unable to install anything in it due to
numerous installation errors. The other issue is the 3 year contract
with Compuserve. I haven't used Compuserve in years, but I'll bet
money your son will be asking you to get AOL within a month.
That's where all his friends will be.
I've only used one computer with an AMD K2 in it and it seemed to run just fine.
