Rick, I don't think so: "Jones says government agencies have even managed to open encrypted files by obtaining password locks." To circumvent the biometric lock, the remote controller would have to be able to successfully replay the scanned biometric, and that can be avoided by existing algorithms that defend against a replay attack. One caveat: I'm not at all sure that this defense exists in the IDT product, although I believe it does in the IDX pattern recognition product. But there may be a different defense used in the IDT technology -- encryption beyond current password protection. This story is another demonstration that ordinary password protection is not protection enough.
