To circumvent the biometric lock, the remote controller would have to be able to successfully replay the scanned biometric, and that can be avoided by existing algorithms that defend against a replay attack. One caveat: I'm not at all sure that this defense exists in the IDT product, although I believe it does in the IDX pattern recognition product. But there may be a different defense used in the IDT technology -- encryption beyond current password protection.

This story is another demonstration that ordinary password protection is not protection enough.
