>Seriously, the meaning of is or what is has been debated in theological circles and philosophical circles throughout the ages. I have no problem with that, it is definitely a worthy course of action. etc.<

As important as the discussion of 'is' in philosophical circles, is its meaning in legal ones. Since the incident to which you refer took place in a legal context, perhaps the discussion of its legal meaning was not as shocking there as it would be in other contexts.

>When our elite and powerful members are able to dictate the meaningless to over rule the common and self evident then we have no basis for negotiating in a civil way. In essence, we no course except to accept conditions as they are, becoming lambs to the process or we become rebellious to authority.<

If it were indeed the case that 'elite and powerful members' were consistent in their attempt to undermine the meaning of the words we use, I think that you would have grounds for concern. As it is, surely the passage of time will consign this particular episode of logic chopping and hair splitting if not to the ash heap of history than at least to the comedians' woodpile.

>Nice economy we're having today, don't you agree.<

Yes. But this too will pass.
