Your comments ring true: In 1973 I was a RR in training for an institutional brokerage/investment banking firm. Each of the analysts presented to us on the companies that they followed (PRD, MCD, HWP, etc.). One of the analysts was very blunt and summed up what the others were in essence saying, "I'll tell you anything you want to know about the company: sales growth, earnings growth, etc, etc. Just don't ask me where the stock is going, I don't know." Back then the better traders were on the trading desk and the public/RR's never saw or heard from them unless they made a concentrated effort. But even with them the vast majority had a limited time horizon on their "forecast."
