<<Do I have a moral 'code'? Not my own. I have a certain sympathy for do-unto-others. And I try to figure it out as I go along.>> I have a hard time seeing how you can define yourself so confidently as moral but you don't have a definition of what is moral.

<<I believe that it is not useful (or appropriate) for governments to tell people which god to worship (the first commandment), how to worship (the second commandment), ...>> This simply is not the case.

<<But you chose to characterize those who are against this proposal as 'the immoral'.>> No I did not. I characterised this new wave of legislation as backed by a moral agenda and its opponents as backed by those with an immoral agenda. I offered exception in that I said there are lots of stakeholders bandwagoning or bolstering one side or the other.

<<I can only assume that you think that I'm immoral.>> Actually, since you wont or can't give me the codes upon which you would build a foundation of morality, I find your declaration of morality suspect.

<<Do you think that posting the decalogue will change anyone's behaviour? >> Like people considering robbery and murder as an occupation will choose fast food service instead.....Um uh, I guess not.

<<Do you think that it is possible to keep the Ten Commandments and not be moral?>> Absolutely not, if you are keeping the big ten you are definitely and completely moral.

<<What kinds of behaviour do you disapprove of that are not covered by the Ten Commandments?>> Everything is covered.

Mind if I try to answer your quiz?

1. Will posting the decalogue change anyone's behavior? Given the sorry state of affairs which is our culture today, IMO, its worth a shot to see if it might. A definite maybe.

2. Is it possible to keep the Ten Commandments and not be moral? Yes. But not likely.

3. What kinds of behavior do you disapprove of which is not covered by the Ten Commandments? This is really too broad to answer. But a short list might include cheating in your school or job; bribing public officials, abusing any authority or discretion you may have by virtue of public office or beating your spouse or children, hurling racial or national origin epithets.

How'd I do?
