A reliable source has informed me that the BoA announcement with Yahoo! does not involve CheckFree. Transactions, such as bill payment, will require the user has to link back to the BofA site, where these activities have been available for some time (there will not be direct bill payment at Yahoo! Finance as far as BoA is concerned). Of course nothing is in production at this point, so nothing is written in stone.

The announcement is limited to providing account information access to BofA customers in California -- this does not address the former NationsBank population, nor consumers outside of California, in addition doesn't include bill presentment(in other words, extremely limited).

This should not be viewed as a competitive threat. In fact, it can be viewed as another acknowledgement by the banking community that people do want to conduct financial activities, including banking, at sites other than the direct bank site. The more the banking community embraces this notion, and the more consumers who adopt this behavior, the faster the market will grow, benefitting all, including CheckFree.
