That's what I said when people showed up at our house to tell us that my dad had been shot. I said "But he works in a library" - thinking NO WAY, you have the wrong house.

I think the stresses are more hidden in the suburbs, and violence is less likely- especially the random kind. So when it DOES happen we get it all over the news- if they did that with murders in Oakland we would have all murder all the time, TV. Same with women and violence. When it does happen (Susan Smith, that women who killed her borders - in San Diego <was it SD?>, Lorena Bobbit, the Manson girls, etc) it is well publicized because it is freakish. If they publicized all the men who kill their girlfriend's children, again- you wouldn't have room for anything else on the news. And let's not even talk about rape. Sure - there are women sexual predators out there but they are FEW and far between- and they don't seem to kill their victims (do they?).
