I got a lead on these additional Novell/IDX clues:

zdnet.com

For some reason, I can't clip the text, but check down in paragraph 10 -- United Airlines is going to use the Novell single sign-on system for its staff. Keep in mind United is already an IDX customer on the Sylvan joint venture and appears committed to biometrics.

And more from the Yahoo Novell board (posts 35333 and 35339):

"I pulled this off of Novell's DigitalME web page. Part of it's content states this as follows.

"SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, BrainShare® '99 - March 22, 1999
'Novell announced agreements with financial service leaders Citigroup and FirstUSA, who will test new services, collaborate with Novell to refine digitalmeā„¢ features and functionality and create open standards for Internet identity.'

"(1) Are these what you would consider 'Beta sites'(Citi and 1stUSA)?.

"(2) Can I assume that there is no 'open standards for Internet identity" yet established?'

---

"(1) These aren't beta sites. Digitalme has not been launched yet. An early version of it was deployed at BrainShare with a great deal of interest. I am not sure why it has not been deployed yet. My guess is that partners such as citibank and First USA are still working on their products that are suppose to take advantage of digitalme. Furthermore I think it is also partially a conscious decision to keep some powder dry =;-).

"(2) I think there is standard for privacy over the net by w3 consortium. I forgot its name, but correct I don't think there is standard for identity.

"(3) To understand the potential of digital me, just remember that citibank and First USA are the biggest issuers of credit cards in the US and the growth of internet commerce. But these are just some aspects of what digitalme will offer. The partners are many and numerous and in many fields. I can't say more=;-)

Hmmm . . . I believe those two banks are also into biometrics. Citibank for sure.
