The average sales price also rose by nearly 10,000 yen over the previous week, topping the 200,000-yen mark.

This is certainly not indicative of Celerons cannibalizing the PIII's, an increase in the ASP's

Kash - Re: "Q2 may be a tad weaker than anticipated. AMD has alluded to this."

You call AMD losing $200 MILLION BUCKS and selling only 61% of their CPU production " a tad weaker "?

That's a disaster of immense proportions.

Which will most likely be followed by an even bigger AMD disaster next quarter.

Paul

INTC could be in for some tough sledding in the weeks to come.
It was a battle of the analysts, with Merrill and Prudential upping the stocks rating from accumulate/accumulate to buy/strong
buy while BancBoston Robertson Stephens cut its Q2 estimate on chip
maker from $0.53 to $0.52... Also cut FY99 and FY00 estimates from
$2.25 and $2.55 to $2.19 and $2.40... Briefing.com leans toward latter
view... As such, INTC could be in for some tough sledding in the weeks to
come.

kash johal, why do you invest in a loosing company?

techstocks.com

( note the downward trend of AMD asnd the upward trend of INTC ).

from a recurrent INTC investor,

you said

Tench,

Re: "Niles and co",

If you read his analysis it seems to make sense.

Q2 may be a tad weaker than anticipated.

AMD has alluded to this.

CPQ has also alluded to this.

Also everybody agrees that Celeron is cannibalizing PIII sales to some extent.

So caution is certainly warranted as Intel will face pricing pressure in the higher end
desktop space from AMD's K7.

In fact rumours abound that Intel will be slashing it's PIII prices to below AMD's
"initial K7 prices".

So on this basis the CPU biz looks less than stellar with reduced overall volumes
from Q1 overall.

However we know that Flash should be great this quarter and also that high end
server demand is pretty good.

Depending upon how one reads the Flash/Xeon contributions one can make an
argument for anywhere between 0.50 and 0.65 for the quarter.

Just because he's urging caution - should not be read as the fact they guy has
ulterior motives.

kash
