Cruise sounds great - it would be a lot simpler. But, I'm going, like Joana, for fun and hanging out. Any opinions?

Joana...I have done the SS Independence cruise twice around the Islands. They have 3, 4 and 7 day trips. I have several close friends who work on the ship. The ship sets sail on Saturday evening from Oahu and heads to Kauai, they sail around Kauai all day Sunday and dock around 5PM...the rest of the evening and the next day is yours to explore. Then Monday evening it is on to Wailuku Maui...you are there Tuesday and Wednesday. Then leave Thursday evening for Hilo, Hawaii.(near Puna Pickle) Thursday nite is a special evening. It is Volcano nite...they cruise past the volcano flowing into the sea. Usually the captain stops for quite a while to observe the flow. Lately it has been quite good...changes constantly however. We cruise past volcano on the way to Kona...where there is awesome snorkeling do be done at Kealakekua Bay Hawaii...where Captain Cooke monument is.
He is not buried there...his bones were divided up between the Hawaiians after he was killed. The monument is close to the spot where he was bludgeneod to death. I recommend the zodiacs by Sea Quest or Captain Zodiac. Also, the Fairwinds Catamaran is great! This bay has the best snorkeling I have done so far on the various Islands!

Friday nite the ship heads back to Oahu where it started! One full week...too many activities...too many choices...I was grateful I wasn't a first time visitor...it would have been difficult to decide what to do on each Island!
