Thanks for the reply. I checked with the options group at my broker (Fido) and they said they thought the stock in question (QCOM) would have to trade at least at 160-165 for a week before a 170 would be introduced. In any case, I went ahead with a spread using the 160s because no one seemed to think new strikes were imminent.

It is possible to request a strike by calling the exchange, but there is no guarantee they will add it.
