I've had that experience, too-- of being called 'PC' because a position I had coincided with one that had been labeled 'PC,' so I agree with you; the term can obscure at the same time it elucidates; maybe even more efficiently.

But sometimes it fits a situation well. There are people -- I know some -- whose thought process seems to consist of trying to figure out how the problem presented can be answered by adopting a stance or uttering a cliche that, at the moment they utter it, makes them feel... Correct. (Politically.)

Ramifications don't matter, realism doesn't matter, precedent doesn't matter, history doesn't matter, that the results will be, predictably, contrary to the ones purportedly sought... none of it matters. What matters is the opportunity to fit themselves into a certain template, to feel themselves in the moment of that fit. If it offers the opportunity to posture, all the better.

Ideologues are like that.
