Precisely

Piracy is what fills the gap between perceived value and price. Sure, there will always be cheapskates who will bend over backwards out of spite just to cheat someone out of a nickle, but most folks are honest and have no problem paying for value received. What folks object to is being forced to pay artificially high prices which clearly do not reflect underlying value. CD "sticker shock" is the root of all the recording industry's problems and realistic pricing is the only effective remedy to the "MP3 problem".

We'll probably need a few costly market flops like SDMI for the message to get through, but I have no doubt that it will and that the consumer will be the ultimate beneficiary.
