**OT** For Rande Is, re: Star Wars/The Phantom Menace

It is only because you are a fan of the original that you were kind enough to say that " The Phantom Menace" was boring. What you really meant was: IT SUCKED!!. Seriously, it had no plot that anyone over age 7 would find interesting, the acting was pathetic and it lacked any human emotion. It was a never-ending stream of Hollywood special effects, and not very good ones at that. Compare "The Phantom Menace" to "2001: A Space Odyssey", Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece, and you quickly realize that it is not in the same league, even though "2001" was made nearly 30 years ago!

<<<Star Wars Episode I was not a flop, but it was not NEARLY as big as the makers had thought it would be. . . .>>>

Nor was it near as big as I personally thought it would be. Very surprised, especially since I LOVED it, and am not really a star wars fan... Didn't see two of the original three until after they were re-released in theaters.

One thing to consider regarding star wars related toy sales... I don't interact with very many adolescents these days, but even if it is 'star wars' merchandise, aren't these types of toys considered 'boring' relative to all the other neat stuff out there? In other words, did you check to see how well star wars gaming products are selling? Dollar to doughnuts that this type of stuff is moving a lot faster than action figures are.

I actually enjoyed this one, mostly because I expected the worst and didn't try to analyze anything. With hyped up movies like this, it's always best to expect a lousy movie, and then be pleasantly surprised.

Granted, it doesn't compare to the original, but most sequels don't. The one thing that definitely did outdo the original was the queen vs. Princess Leia (in terms of looks). She was definitely easy on the eyes...

...but the movie that I really enjoyed was Tarzan. Again, low expectations going in helped, as did focusing on the kids' enjoyment...
