AOL faces serious competitive threats ---free ISP would be a disaster for them. If MSFT wanted to pull something like that, i bet they could as it not something new and will definately be good for the consumer. There is no case of tying anything to Windows in such a scenario.
IF MSFT sees one player get too big in one arena, it will take such action. AOL is getting big and can keep their customer base even facing cheaper ISP rates because of their chat etc. that only subscribers can access.
THat is why free ISP is just around the corner but AOL knows that too.
