Bob, I will be the one buying up all those bargains on Dec. 31, 1999. Certainly I believe there will be problems. . .but not affecting everyone, generally not connected one to another and certainly not devastating to a point where it will cause panic, crashes or anarchy. . . .[though I am already 80 percent prepared for all of the above]

I was amazed at the SMALL number of crashes on important dates leading up to Y2K. . .like 12/31/98 into 1/1/99 . . . many were expecting some big crashes then. . . didn't happen.

Then there was April 1, 1999 when we moved from first quarter into second. . . accounting programs were expected to look ahead one year and not recognize the first quarter of 00. . . but somehow it did. . .and corporations did not crash.

Next is 09/09/99 . . .where many have said the nines represent "stop". . . I don't buy it. In the date field, it is a date. . .NOT a routine to make the computer stop.

There will be some electric off in a county somewhere in Wyoming. . .and another in Mississippi. . . there will be no water in a town in Arkansas and 911 will go down in several towns in West Virginia. . .but no jail cells will mysteriously open. . . elevators will not stop working. . . . television will not shut down. . .and most importantly. . . these problems will not be tied one to another, in my opinion.

I would not be flying then however, as the FAA has serious problems that cannot be addressed in time. But I doubt planes will crash. . . though they may get re-routed. . . you could end up in Baltimore instead of Philadelphia.

I doubt trains will find themselves on the wrong tracks. There is too much preparation for any of this to happen.

So. . . I DO believe that there will be some panic before Y2K. . .mostly in bank runs. . .and the fear perpetuated by Hollywood and the media. . .I think there are 3 end of the world type movies slated for Christmas release 99. . .that deal with Y2K.

There will certainly be fear. . . which does drive the markets. . . . .I don't think we will see nearly the sort of sell-offs that some expect.

I think any money removed will occur over the course of December. . . . .

. . .then come January 2000 when everyone sees that most everything is working, we will see perhaps the biggest single month gain in market history.
