Tad, did you crack a slight smile when Niles asked that question about market share on the conf. call and the response was something like "most people would put us at 15-20%".

I know I did. <g>

Best Regards,

Tom

tad, the dynamics of the dram industry are such that significant reduced cost = significant ramps to output. period. what the dram industry needs is a cartel to equally control output so that the first person to stop the cost reductions isn't beat down by the remaining companies.

NOBODY WANTS TO BE FIRST AND BLOODIED THE WORST.

the cartel bit was tried a few years ago. it didn't work. why? well, an american dram mfr dumped all their inventory and ramped output (doubled output?) while some other mfrs held back inventory.

fool me once, shame on mu. fool me twice, shame on me.
this industry is hell.

but, that is EXACTLY what wall sweet wants... so why not provide it.

Go get 'em, Tad!

Tad LaFountain, analyst at Needham & Co., said, " . . . we are now entering a 12 to 18 month period where these stocks have to take a breather and let earnings grow underneath the stock prices. Otherwise, the valuations are going to get so bizarre and make these things terribly risky."

Elsewhere, Micron Technology (MU: news, msgs) shares slid 1.8 percent as speculation carried over from late last week regarding its mircon processors. LaFountain said a part of the ponderings includes Micron's 0.18 processor in which "one of the functions on the parts is not working." Speculation also surrounds possible problems with Micron's 0.21 processor.

LaFountain said the company has denied the rumors, yet added, "The rumors have enough specificity to them that they would appear valued on face. If in fact they [the rumors] turn out to be true, then I think there is a total shredding of credibility on the part of the company." A Micron spokeswoman didn't immediately return calls seeking comment.
