NEW YORK, July 7 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs and Co.'s new telecommunications analyst, Frank Governali, on Wednesday started coverage of 17 companies.

On the recommended list were MCI WorldCom Inc. (Nasdaq:WCOM - news), SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE:SBC - news), Ameritech Corp. (NYSE:AIT - news), AT&T Corp. (NYSE:T - news), CenturyTel Inc. (NYSE:CTL - news), ITC DeltaCom Inc. (Nasdaq:ITCD - news) and Metromedia Fiber Network Inc. (Nasdaq:MFNX - news).
