The company had advised the market to expect poor earnings for the first two periods months ago... All in all for Ericsson, the income for the first six months of 1999 is expected to be lower than for the first six months of 1998. This is due to the financial uncertainty in a number of markets, the cost of research and development of new technologies and products, the fact that the launch of new mobile phones will impact earnings mostly in the second half, and the initial costs for restructuring, which are not expected to be offset by positive effects until later in the year
