"what roughness" I agree, maybe they were complaining about Nigeria - I only heard a radio 1-liner. The brazilian team is at a disadvantage because they are quite a bit more petite, and this is an important factor.
I've seen plenty of loose balls float across open goals in international matches so despite the "gift" nature (as I said, in women's soccer there are many more gifts like these presented) the Parlow goal arose from good anticipation and the optimism required of a striker.

Hopefully the U.S. team will lose their "lets not play rough" attitude in time to play China. I also worry that their game is not as fresh as at the start, and the many friendlies with China gives a familiarity that has to be overcome.

But give lots of credit to Parlow for sticking around the goalie and being in the position to pay them for their mistakes, a sign of a great team.

This is what I meant about being a great striker, many call them "luck", or whatever, but this is precisely the job of the strikers:

To seek the opportunities where there are none, and score.

While the "gift" by the goalie could have been a factor, you still have to convert the gift into a goal. Parlow put it in.

First Half USA 0 x 0 China.

Forceful play, lots of enthusiasm from both teams, but so far I see the US a little more settled, playing good and dominating.

However, they need to be carful the Chinese team is lightening fast and react quickly presenting dangerous counterattacks...

The Chinese seem a little tense, allowing the USA to have more possession of the ball and control of the mid-field. The USA looked nervous only in the first 5 minutes or so.

Some good plays, but they need to concentrate on scoring, remember games are won by scoring goals.

We will wait for the second half.
