Reference Handset Division Possible Sale.

There is know rational reason Q should be talking about selling the division. Just think about it. Sony just through in the towel on the N.American handset market. This enables Q to capture Sonys market share. In the recent DataQuest Report Q had 14% market share. When you combine this market share with Sony's 7% share, Q penetration in US should exceed 20%.

On top of the market share issue there appears to be no suggestion that Q is actively engaged with any investment bankers. If Q was involved with the sale of the handset division, Lehman Brothers analyst Tim Luke would be in a "QUIET PERIOD". Luke was the investment banker for Q in the spinoff of LWIN & sale of infra to ericy.

Whatever is going on @ the Q, a JV makes more sense than outright sale. Luke also made mention of Big handset contract with Sprint.

JGOREN- Link Maurice's and JohnG's points that Siemens will buy Sony's part of the JV with an earlier post that Vodaphone Airtouch Plc will make a CDMA/GSM phone (to strangle Omnipoint in the cradle) and push through the much desired CDMA overlay in Europe, and then I think the deal makes sense, by George.
