points are well taken, but I just don't think that they are well supported by reality (not meant to sound as insulting as it did !). Admittedly all of my arguments may be anecdotal babble, but most homes don't have 1 40 inch tv, they have between 2-5 televisions, most with an independent vcr and maybe even a nintendo/sega or two. I'll bet that two or so of them have premium services attatched. Ordering lots of stuff over QVC, etc. My point is, although we would like to think we are frugal, we really aren't when it comes to what we decide is "essential" entertainment. I think that all it takes is a change of expectations of what is necessary to entertain us. Know many people without cable ? How about the stripped down basic package, without ESPN etc. ?
