First of all the property values in Israel skyrocket like AMZN and NTBK in January 1998 through late April 1999.. We bought our apartment before Neveh Avivim was even a town (23 years ago).. nothing there but woods.. but the redeeming value was that it was about 5 blocks from Tel Aviv University which was in the beginning stages of building what was supposed to be a world class medical school (actually it was the Queen of Holland who donated some money).. Anyhow he had heard about the medical school being built while still in America (He was active in the friends of Tel Aviv University etc.) and he donated some bucks for the endeavor. Anyhow we moved to Israel and had to stay at an ULPAN for new immigrants (a 3 star sort of hotel that they designated to new immigrants) When the building was ready ( a really gorgeous apartment overlooking the ocean, nothing like apartment in this country, all build in brick (no dry wall there)..) But it cost in the very low 6 digits. (about as much as a starter townhome in boca)... By the time the medical school was completed (about 2-3 years) and the area built up the property values were up over 400%. My parents had bought me a small apartment at about that time also.

Anyhow we were one of the first families in the neighborhood, but if you are ever in Israel you must go to Neveh Avivim which turned out to be one of the most beautiful communities reminiscent of Zurich or Geneva (instead of mountains there is ocean). Anyhow we have some stories sthere also.. A corrupt high official jumped off the roof one day while I was coming home from school, and landed on our wrap around terrace, and another drove to the beach and shot himself in his car. So we were always in the news.

We sold both properties early in 1987 and the area boomed to over 800% our buy price, so we did kind of miss out. By the way, we sold both apartments in a matter of hours. A great time in my life.. growing up in Israel.
