Is the human eye being replaced? According to PC world magazine (in a special article on Flat panel displays)a FPD is considered defective if 6 consecutive pixtels are defective resulting in a black dot. You may not be able to see two or three bad pixtels but six in a row may be noticed. One of the problems is that various end sellers (DELL, GTW, CPQ) have different standards as to what constitutes a defective screen. The end purchaser will have a difficult time getting a replacement screen for this reason.

The were significant competitors for testing equipment for FPD's three years ago. However, the market did not materialize as quickly as expected and many of these programs were shelved.

What the status is today? I don't know. FPD's are a rapidly growing market, but they are not taking over the world as previously anticipated. Hope this helps.
