I think you put your finger on it: while Moynihan may be also be protecting New York's interest whilst protecting his own, the bottom line for those of us who live here is that he IS protecting New York's interests. And that's all we really want. Also, what one person may characterize as temporizing or dissembling, another may view as an understandable agonizing over one of the most difficult decisions placed before the Senate in this century. I think more than a few fine men and women struggled with this decision. I have never known Sen. Moynihan to be anything other than lucid and articulate in discussing the issues facing New York and the nation; absent some episode of public inebriation, I think we all should hesitate to repeat this canard. But if, indeed, the Senator at times imbibes too much, then I am reminded of the words of Abraham Lincoln when informed that Gen Ulysses Grant drank to excess: "Find out what brand of whiskey the General favors. I'd like to send a case to my other generals."

Moynihan's about-face on removal was an act of cowardice that characterizes well his wishy-washy career. His endorsement of Hillary is another pathetic democrat machine maneuver.
